Digital Presence and Social Media

If you spend more than three hours each school day on social media you are twice as likely to suffer poor mental health.

How do you feel if you’ve not been able to ‘connect’ for several hours? Do you experience ‘fear of missing out’? Are you a connectivity addict?

The digital world is a great tool, but it can also be a danger, providing easy prey for those seeking to bully, isolate and destroy a person’s dignity. When it comes to protecting our mental health it’s essential that we build social media hygiene into our lives:
  • Limit time spent in the virtual world.
  • Recognise the virtual world as not necessarily truthful.
  • Be careful who you link up with. Are they really friends?
  • Take steps against digital negativity, trolls or cyber-bulling.
