Taking time out to relax, especially when we are under pressure, is vitally important for good mental health. There are many things we can do to help ourselves relax. Play with a pet, read a book, listen to music, have a warm bath . . .
Our minds are always racing with information and juggling distractions. STOP for a moment, look out of the window, let your shoulders drop, stretch a little and allow your mind to take notice of your surroundings – Linger in the ‘right here, right now’.
Breathing exercises help the body relax. Get comfortable, close your eyes and take deep breaths. Imagine yourself in a beautiful place. Focus on what you might be doing there – the sights, the sounds, the smells and the feel of being there. Enjoy the peace.
